Max Alt: 7,585 feet Time: 6.75 hours
Weather: Intermittent sun and cloud with a heavy downpour as we reached the bus stop
Comments: Passing the Grawa Falls, a very pleasant climb took us to the hanging valley and the Sulzenau Alm. A short break here gave us time to admire the many carvings at the Alm. Being Saturday, there were a number of families enjoying the climb and the facilities in the valley. We then ascended to the Sulzehau Hutte and continued straight on to the Blue Lake - very appropriately named. After a short stop for photos we returned to the Sulzenau Hutte for lunch and we were eventually joined by the other group whose route had taken them over Pieloch.

After crossing the Oberbergbach . . .

we reach the viewing point . . .

of the Grawa Falls

An interesting set of steps take us up to . . .

another viewing point . . .

where we get a close look at the spray . . .

mentioned on the information board

More innovative steps

Pretty - but what are they?

After reaching the top of the first climb . . .

we make our way into the hanging valley . . .

and across a couple of bridges . . .

to find lots of people enjoying the day

The Sulzenau Alm is the home to lots of carvings . . .

including this graphic one

We enjoy a refeshment break . . .

before continuing on towards the waterfall . . .

where our path . . .

passes quite close . . .

to the rushing water

As the path turns away from the waterfall . . .

I check out the view back down to the valley

Alpine yellow violet

The glacier comes into view . . .

as we head across the bridge . . .

and take a closer look

One of the many cairns built beside the lake

Zooming in on the other group . . .

as they descend from Piejoch

The colour of the lake . . .

is fantastic . . .

Matching top!

John, Mike and Sue test out the apple streusel (or is it strudel?)

Both groups join together . . .

before descending back down to the hanging valley . . .

and past the waterfall
